A trio is back on top of the standings / Breuskin shines for Gréngewald

The first game day of the second round was played in the men’s National 2 this weekend.

The Hedgehogs Bascharage were able to win the top game against the Kordall Steelers, the final score was 94:84 in favor of the team of coach Adam Radomirovic. Logins led the way with 29 points, Ndiaye had 24, Kuhlmann had his season high 18 points and Timo Tani added 11 points as both teams are tied on top of the standings after this game. Barkley (36) and Oberweiser (26) combined for 62 points while Lazar Lukic had 16 points for the guests that lose the sole leader position in the league.

Next to Bascharage and Kordall, BBC Gréngewald is the third co-leader in the standings after a hard fought 78:71 win against Black Star Mersch behind a balanced team effort. Luc Breuskin had a team-high 23 points for Gréngewald including 6 « 3-pointers ». Ted Schleimer also scored in double digits with 13 points as the team of coach Alex Pires continues to play a strong season. The team from Mersch has a record of 1 win and 8 losses, it is clear already at this moment that the club will fight against relegation. The bottom 2 teams of the league will relegate to the National 3 at the end of the season. Hassan led the team with 30 points as the guests only hit 3 shots from behind the arc, not enough to win a close game.

Avanti Mondorf won a close game 79:75 at Monnerich against BC Mess. The guests overcame a team-high 23 points by National 2 JICL topscorer Maxime Sunnen and did not allow Mess to storm back in the end. Small (32 points) and Ross (22) were the main scorers for the guests, Mondorf improves to 5:4 in the standings and definitely keeps an eye on the top teams. Mondorf is also the only remaining team from the second league in the cup competition, they will face Arantia Larochette in the 1/4 finals ( –> Men’s cup draw 1/4 finals: Mondorf will host Arantia ). Mess has won 3 out of 8 games this season.

On Sunday, Zolwer and Mamer met with both teams playing with only 1 non-JICL player. The guests from Zolwer took control of the game with a 27:7 first quarter and never looked back again, the final score was 68:48 in favor of the guests. Patrick Hoffmann scored a new JICL season high 30 points in this game, Council led Zolwer with 30 points while Heuschling (11) and Weis (10) scored in double digits as well. Zolwer earns its 5th win on 9 games and the team of coach Carlo Ferrante will look to climb in the standings over the next weeks. Mamer has only 1 win so far and it is obvious that the team will be in a fight against relegation moving forward.
