Anne Simon played her second professional season in Italy and her first with the team from Campobasso. While the season ended earlier than expected for the club, Simon was able to leave her mark with some strong performances. In Italy and the national team, she was able to impress all season long.
Simon scored 11.2 points per game, 3.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists in the first league in Italy.
What personal conclusions can you draw from your first season with Campobasso?
Personally my first season with the new club has been good. I was able to grow as a player and played on a better team level compared to San Martino the previous season. One of my goals was to play in a European competition and I was able to do that with Campobasso in the Eurocup.
Are you satisfied with the results of the team?
All in all, we can be satisfied with the way we played and competed. We were close to advancing one more round in the Eurocup competition. In the championship, we lost in the first round of the play-offs which was disappointing obviously and we also missed the semi finals in the cup competition. We did not have the rhythm in the important moments of the season and that is something we need to work on for the future.
You qualified for the second round with the national team and one of the opponents will be France. Does this influence your off-season?
Big games are ahead with the national team next season and we need to work in order to be prepared. I take the off-season seriously and follow my training plan regardless of the upcoming games. During summer, it is time to focus on getting better individually and I am trying to take full profit.
What are the plans about your future that you can share at this moment?
My plan is to stay in Campobasso for the next season and then I’ll look further.
In the Enovos League in Luxembourg, the play-offs are being played, have you followed the league over the course of the season and who are the favorites?
I am currently in Luxembourg and try to follow the games. During the season, I did not closely follow the league results. In my opinion, T71 Dudelange is the clear favorite and missing the cup title was a wake-up-call for the team. I am excited to see which team (Sparta or Contern) will qualify for the finals, all 3 teams play a good basketball and would deserve a title in my opinion.
