U18 girls start European Championship on Friday

Our U18 girls are the first youth national team to play the European Championship (Divison B) this summer. In fact, the team around Ehi Etute will be in Sofia (Bulgaria) starting Friday, June 30th.

Luxembourg will play in group C against Austria, Greece and Romania. The team needs to finish 1st or 2nd to qualify for the places 1-8 that will be played in a play-off elimination mode (quarter finals, semi finals, finals).

Coaching staff:
„On Tuesday our U18 women’s national team left for Sofia (Bulgaria) to participate in the FIBA European U18 Division B Championship. During 12 days, 18 teams, divided in 4 groups will compete for the championship and the possibility of moving up to Division A. Luxembourg is in Group C, where it will face strong teams: Romania, Greece and Austria.
The team had a very short and intense preparation and is highly motivated to transform the different techniques learned during training at competition level.
They had many preparation games, as well as the opportunity to participate in 2 exchanges in Luxembourg against GB 🇬🇧 and Ireland 🇮🇪 with highly competitive games.
All these matches have given the team the opportunity to adapt to the level that will await and to improve together, ready to compete in the European championship.
The team is now focused and excited to face the international competition in the coming days. The first game will be against Greece 🇬🇷
. The coaching staff is convinced that our young ladies will represent Luxembourg well and that they will represent Luxembourg at a high level of competition.“

Ehi Etute is mentionned in an article by FIBA as one of the 5 players to watch during this competition. „A tour de force and imposing do-it-all presence for Luxembourg, Etute has been outstanding at youth level, putting up eye-popping numbers. She played for the senior team in the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2023 Qualifiers and incredibly averaged more than 13 points and 8 rebounds per game. Meanwhile she has also impressed in EuroCup Women with T71 Diddeleng, somehow managing to finish with a double-double season despite her tender years. »
