Exciting play off race ahead / Musel Pikes – Sparta on Wednesday

An exciting race is ahead in the men’s LBBL for the final spot in the play offs.

Currently, multiple teams are still in the race to finish 8th and avoid playing a play-down that will be absolutely thrilling and therefore also very dangerous for all teams involved.

While many teams have already qualified for the play-offs that will be played in a new format (1 versus 8, 2 versus 7, 3 versus 6, 4 versus 5), T71, Contern, Telstar, the Musel Pikes and Racing are the teams that have a negative record at the moment and are therefore in the second half of the standings.

As the current last placed team in the standings, Racing Luxembourg’s full focus is on getting ready for the play-down where a lot of games are left to being played and everything will be possible. The Musel Pikes were on the bottom of the standings for most of the season but they have come out in 2022 like a new team, winning 4 out of 5 games. And the team around Jean Kox could still qualify for the play-offs … even if their chances are limited.

On Wednesday-evening, a rescheduled game between the Musel Pikes and Sparta (20:00) will be played. If the Pikes can win this game as well, they will have a chance to make a push at the 8th place in the upcoming weeks.

AB Contern’s head coach Gavin Love announced on Tuesday-evening that he will leave the club at the end of the season after 5 years.

Meanwhile, Basket Esch has added a new professional player in Steven Green, he will replace Jordan Hicks who is out a few months after his Covid-19-infection. Esch has lost 4 straight games.

Furthermore, the women’s LBBL is back next weekend with the first game day of the play-offs where the best 8 teams will meet each other once over the next weeks before the 1/4 finals will start later this season.
