Game 1 of the semi finals on Wednesday

On Wednesday evening, the semi finals in the women’s and men’s LBBL play-offs will begin with game 1 of the best-of-3 series.

19:30 Amicale Steinsel – Arantia Larochette
20:15 Basket Esch – T71 Dudelange

Number one seed Amicale Steinsel is the current champion and has been the only team in the men’s league to finish the quarter finals unbeaten (2:0 against Contern). Despite the injury by Melcher, the team of coach Etienne Louvrier still has enormous quality in its roster. In addition, Ivor Kuresevic returned from the United States and played a few minutes in the quarter finals. Amicale’s opponent Arantia Larochette is clearly full of confidence after eliminating cup winner Etzella in a highly dramatic quarter finals series with three exciting games. Jamison Overton was averaging 35 points per game in round 1 and helped the team of Christophe Ney enter the semi finals, can the number 5 seed upset the next team? Both teams were able to grab one win against each other during the regular season.

The series between Basket Esch and T71 Dudelange is a classic meeting. These games will become a fight from start to finish. Both teams had a difficult first round series where they were challenged by Résidence and Sparta. During the season, both meetings between T71 and Esch were low scoring games and it would not be a surprise if this would become a very tactical series.

18:15 T71 Dudelange – Résidence Walfer
18:30 Gréngewald Hueschtert – Sparta Bertrange

In the women’s semi finals, number one seed T71 Dudelange will host Résidence Walfer. Dudelange is the favorite in the series, but the team of coach Jérôme Altmann knows that Résidence can become a dangerous opponent, especially because of its strong duo Amanda Cahill and Kierra Anthony, both player are able to score around 30 points in any game. Despite the injury by point guard Catherine Mreches and some changes of professional players during the season, Dudelange has been playing well and their team chemistry and the fact that multiple players are dangerous at any moment has helped them finish on top of the league.

Gréngewald Hueschtert and Sparta Bertrange played against each other in the cup final with the better end for the team of coach Francois Manti. In fact, Gréngewald has the longest active winning streak (since November 12th) in the LBBL and clearly has its eyes on the double title. Sparta Bertrange has a lot of quality on its roster and can become a dangerous opponent for Gréngewald, the team of coach Mike Feyder wants to take revenge for the loss in the cup final.
