Isi Etute made headlines with her decision to join the elite college basketball team Texas. At 18 years of age, she is on the list of the top young basketball prospects.
From the first moments in Texas, the former player of T71 Dudelange and current member of the women’s Senior national team knew that the expectations with the Longhorns in Texas were high: „Everything needs to be perfect, the goal is to become the national champion and everybody needs to be on the same page. From a basketball standpoint, a fast playing style and very quick decision making are the priority here while the overall playing style is very physical. It is interesting that no matter where you move around in the city, fans are everywhere and they recognize you immediately. »
Next to her basketball goals, Etute also studies at the university. „I am very busy in my every day life, we have a packed schedule. As a freshman, you have to adjust to the challenge each day and it is obvious that not everything will work out perfectly right from the start. All in all, it is a great challenge and a lot of fun. The team chemistry is excellent, we get along very well. I do not know exactly what to expect from myself, but I expect to get my opportunities on the court over the course of the season and to receive regular playing time. My playing style also needs to adapt, I need to make my presence known on the defensive end of the court. »
While they study and play basketball in the same country, approximately 1400 miles separate Isi and Ehis Etute. However, their communication is regular. „We do not talk every single day but quite regularly. Most of the times, we chat about our every day life or our family. Sometimes, we discuss what our coaches expect from us. »
Isi will follow the upcoming national team games in November closely. „It is a pity that Ehis any myself will miss these games, expecially the one against France, these are games that everybody wants to play. But we will watch and support the team from here. »

While the season for Oregon will start on November 2nd, Texas will be in action for the first time on November 4th.
