Interview: Magaly Meynadier talks about an eventful 2024/25 season

Magaly Meynadier has played an outstanding season with the national team and her club Saarlouis Royals. The 33-year-old national team captain takes a look back on the 2024/25 season and already has her eyes on the next challenges.

You won the cup title and finished second in the league playoffs. The national team won 4 games and just missed Eurobasket 2025. What is your conclusion about the 2024/25 season?
„It has been an eventful season, both with the national team and with Saarlouis. It was an amazing joy and special moment to finally win a title in my professional career. The national team had a historic chance, we just missed it but we can never forget what we achieved with 4 victories in 6 games. It was an incredibly long season, I did not have a break from August 2024 until the end of the finals in Germany. This might be an explanation for a little lack of energy in the final games. Overall, it was a great season with the club. »

Can you say that this has been your best season as a player? How much motivation do you get from this season moving forward?
„It is hard for me to answer if it has been the most successful season because we had strong seasons in Nördlingen as well, obviously without a title but we played very well and the Covid-pandemic took the chance from us to finish the project. It certainly gives me motivation, I am 33 years old, I know that the time is running for myself as a professional player but I can say that I was an important part on a strong team which is a success in my eyes. I am also thankful that all the hard work that I put into my job pays off.

You published a video together with Saarlouis to announce that you will participate in the EuroCup next season. What are your thoughts about the new project of the club?
„My motivation to compete is still extremely high. I have never participated in an international competition before so that I am looking forward to the challenge. Participating in such a competition is a goal of any professional athlete because it gives you the opportunity to challenge yourself with your team. I could imagine myself ending my career in Saarlouis at some point in the future, I feel extremely comfortable here and my role in the team is an important one so that it is a perfect fit.“

The games of the small European countries are coming up soon. How excited are you to compete with Luxembourg?
„It is the 6th time that I participate, it is always a special event. It really gives you the feeling of small Olympic games. 2 years ago in Malta, we finished second and I was personally limited to under 15 minutes because I just came back from injury. This year, with the excitement around our national team and with a strong roster, we hope to achieve our goals and also to receive the reward that we unfortunately missed by not qualifying for the European Championship. I am very excited to be a part of the event once again.“
