Interview: Meynadier talks about the 2025/26 season (video highlights)

Magaly Meynadier’s season ended earlier than expected with the Saarlouis Royals. The captain of the German team and our national team had an eventful season 2025/26 with the participation in the Eurocup, the German league and cup competition and the national team games.

Meynadier averaged 6.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.5 steals during the DBBL season.

Eurocup, league championship, cup competition, what are your conclusions after the season with Saarlouis?

Overall, the season was solid for myself as a player even though the final two games were suboptimal. As a team, we struggled in the decisive games in the play-offs and cup competition. We did not manage to play together as a team even though we were the favorites on paper. Our opponent in the play-offs had the right team spirit and therefore was able to surprise us. In the end, we did not achieve our goals as a team. We qualified for the Final Four in the cup competition, but finished fourth which was a bitter disappointment. In the championship, we dominated during the season, finished second in the league ranking but then lost in the first round (quarter finals). Unfortunately, losing is also part of the game. Our team chemistry was not on point at the right moment. In the Eurocup competition, we had our chances but were not able to grab a victory. It was a very challenging time with plenty of games and road trips, we were almost always on the move for several weeks, but all in all, the choice to compete in the competition was the right one as a club in my opinion.

You qualified for the second round with the national team and one of the opponents will be France. Does the draw give you extra motivation during summer time?

Playing against France has always been one of my dreams as a player. We were sure to play against one of the top nations and I guess France was the most interesting draw. We should not be afraid of the matchup, it will be an honor to compete against the players. I am always motivated during summer to be prepared in the best possible way for the season. The upcoming game against France does not give me an extra motivation during summer, but it certainly is something that is very interesting to look forward to, especially also for the younger players on our team. We should be proud that we qualified for the next round and we deserve to face these opponents right now. The atmosphere at the Coque will certainly be special. I was very excited the day of the draw and once the game day will come closer, that excitement will grow even larger.

What are the plans about your future that you can share at this moment?

The question about my future after basketball is in my head for many years already as I am trying to fugure out what path I could take. My plan is to continue my professional career for at least one more season, I am looking at it year by year. Coming back to Luxembourg to work and play is an option after the professional career, there are certain fields I am considering for a regular job. At the same time, I am working on a coaching degree as well because basketball has always been my passion and I can not imagine a life without a role in the sport.

In the Enovos League in Luxembourg, the play-offs are being played, have you followed the league over the course of the season and who are the favorites?

I have not followed the leagues in Luxembourg intensely, I only took a look at the results because I try to keep my mind away from basketball to focus on my team and the league I am playign in. However, I think that the women’s league in Luxembourg offers some intense and interesting games given the fact that there are only 7 teams in the league. I expect Dudelange to win the championship. In the men’s championship, my guess would be Etzella.
