Key games on Friday / Both games by Etzella cancelled

A double game day is scheduled in the men’s LBBL this Friday and Sunday. Only 5 game days remain to be played in the highest men’s league and the play-off race is heating up on game day 18 (Friday) and 19 (Sunday).

UPDATE: The games Etzella Ettelbruck – Amicale Steinsel and Musel Pikes – Etzella Ettelbruck has been cancelled because of the Covid-19 virus.

Several key games are scheduled in the race for the top spots and also in the race for the remaining play-off spots on Friday evening.

–> Top 4 teams meet each other

Etzella (12:5) will have a chance to tie in the standings with co-leader Amicale (13:4), Etzella won the first duell by 21 points and therefore is in a great position to win the direct comparison. The second top game will be played in Esch between co-leaders Basket Esch and T71 Dudelange (both 13:4). In fact, both teams just faced each other in the cup semi finals, a game that ended with Basket Esch as the winner.

–> Fight for the 5th spot

The race for the 5th spot in the standings is also very interesting with Résidence and Arantia (both 10:7) facing each other this Friday evening. Résidence won the first duell by 15 points, the direct comparison between the two teams is clearly something both teams will keep their eyes on during the game.

–> Sparta wants to keep pushing

In the race for the remaining play-off spots, Sparta (7:10) has a chance to take a 2-point lead over the Musel Pikes (6:11). Without Mike Feipel, wo suffered a season ending ACL injury, the team chemistry in Bertrange on the court will have to change a little bit but they have been playing extremely well since the restart.

Newcomer Gréngewald (6:11) wants to keep putting pressure on the better ranked opponents Contern and Sparta and the team of coach Alex Pires has a chance in Zolwer against the second last team in the league standings (3:14). After a difficult cup game on Saturday where Etzella simply ran over Gréngewald, the « Greens » have the chance to show a reaction.

Sitting at the bottom of the league, Heffingen (2:15) faces big pressure over the next games, the team can not enter the play-down with a large deficit in points and they need to stay in touch with their opponents in order to keep their chances alive to stay in the league. On Friday, Heffingen is on the road in Contern (7:10) against a team that wants to keep its excellent position in the play-off race.
