Men’s league is on a break / Most decisions remain open

The men’s LBBL enters a 2 week break because our men’s national team will be in action. In fact, the team of coach Ken Diederich will host Albania on Sunday, February 27th in the Coque in Kirchberg (17:00) in the 2025 Eurobasket pre-qualification tournament. This means that the last game-day of the regular season (22nd) will be played on March 4th and 5th. Sparta and Amicale have 2 remaining games because both teams will meet in a rescheduled game on March 1st.

While some decisions have fallen already, a lot of decisions remain open which will make this last game-day extremely interesting, especially in the race for the 8th place. 3 teams still have the chance to qualify for the play-offs. The Musel Pikes, T71 and Contern will fight for one place on this last game day, avoiding a dangerous relegation group will be the focus for all 3 teams. Let’s remember that the last 4 teams will play against each other 2 times in the relegation group with the bottom 2 teams relegating to the Nationale 2. Furthermore, the 3rd last placed team will play a « best of 3 »-series against the 3rd best team from the Nationale 2 so that there could be 3 teams relegating from the LBBL at the end of the season. At this moment, we already know that Racing and Telstar will compete in the relegation group.

On top of the league, Résidence is having the best cards to finish the regular season first, but Sparta could potentially take the 1st position if the team of coach Chris Wulff wins both remaining games and Résidence loses its last game against Arantia. The positions 2-7 could also see a lot of changes as multiple possibilities remain for teams to jump up or fall down a place or more places in the standings. At the end of the season, the play-offs (1 versus 8, 2 versus 7, 3 versus 6, 4 versus 5) will start with best-of-3-series.

Now, the focus over the next days and weeks will be on the men’s national team and on the women’s LBBL that will continue throughout February with the second round of the regular season.
