Men’s semi-finals continue / Women’s semi-finals start

Another thrilling basketball Saturday is ahead in the women’s and men’s play-offs.


In the women’s play-offs, the semi-finals start. After Contern and Résidence managed to win the decisive game 3 on Wednesday-evening, both team will have a quick turnaround to game 1 of the semi-finals. Cup winner Résidence earns home court advantage against their neighbor Steinsel in the derby. Amicale has shown over the last weeks that the team is playing its best basketball at the right moment of the season so that this should become a very intense series.

Number one seed T71 hosts Contern, the team that is clearly the big surprise of the first play-off round. The team of coach Fabienne Fuger eliminated Gréngewald and is now facing the most difficult challenge on the road against T71, the team of Jérôme Altmann is unbeaten at home all season.

On Saturday, game 2 of the men’s semi finals will be played. T71 needs a win against Basket Esch to keep its season alive while Etzella is facing elimination on the road in Steinsel. T71 needs to find a way to slow down national team player Clancy Rugg who dominated game 1 under the baskets with 23 points and 14 rebounds. After their first round surprise against Sparta, the team of coach Tom Schumacher can play without any pressure, but certainly the team is confident enough to have the goal of forcing a decisive game 3.

Etzella is facing a very difficult challenge as the team needs a win on the road in Steinsel to keep its season alive. The key will be to slow down Jarvis Williams and Bob Melcher, the dynamic duo has shown that it can put teams under enormous pressure on defense. Furthermore, Amicale showed in game 1 that multiple players can step up and score in double digits which makes the team very dangerous.
