U18 boys play friendly games in Krakow / game recaps and pictures

Our U18 boys will travel to Poland to play friendly games over the next days against the U18 national team of Poland. The games will be played in Krakow from June 19th until June 21st.

As part of the preparation for the U18 European Championship – Division C, which will take place in Tirana (Albania) from July 19th to 27th, our U18 men’s national team will hold a competitive training camp in Krakow. This trip to Poland includes two friendly games against the Polish national team, aiming to strengthen team cohesion and raise the level of play ahead of the European Championship.

Our players will arrive in Poland on Thursday morning and will have a practice session in the late afternoon.
On Friday, they will have a morning practice and play their first game against the Polish national team at 5:00 PM.
On Saturday, they will play a second game against Poland at 11:00 AM. After lunch, they will head to the airport to return to Luxembourg later that evening.

Both games will be held at Centrum Sportu Bronowianka.

This international exchange is a strategic step in preparing our U18 national team, who will compete in the FIBA U18 European Championship – Division C in one month.

It is a key moment to fine-tune the final technical and tactical details against high-quality opposition.

GAME RECAPS:

Game 1:
Final score: 117 – 71 (Loss)

Coaching staff: „We began the game with encouraging signs—energy, fighting spirit, and aggressivity during the first 15 minutes. However, the end of the second quarter and the beginning of the third saw a major shift. We started to lose control, committing 31 turnovers, which heavily impacted our ability to stay competitive. The opponent capitalized well, particularly with excellent three-point shooting, hitting 19 shots at 51% accuracy.

Adding to the challenge, our main inside player, Mateo McSwain, suffered an injury in the second quarter and was unable to return to the game.

We are determined to show a stronger and more consistent performance throughout tomorrow’s game.“

Game 2:
Final Score: 115-57 (Loss)

Coaching Staff: „We faced a very high-level opponent who applied intense defensive pressure throughout the game, making it extremely difficult for us to execute our game plan.

These two games have been a valuable learning experience. One of the key takeaways is that we need to adjust certain aspects of our practices in order to better prepare for this type of opposition. Facing this level of pressure more frequently will help us handle it more effectively and improve our ball control. Today, we committed 33 turnovers, compared to 31 in the previous game, and allowed 19 offensive rebounds (14 yesterday). These are numbers that make it nearly impossible to stay competitive in a game against such a strong team.

This exchange was also important in helping us simulate the conditions we will face at the upcoming European Championship. It gave us the opportunity to evaluate our players in a different, more demanding environment.“
