A historic November with 4 victories for our national teams

It was a very successful month of November for basketball in Luxembourg.

The women’s national teams earned 2 victories in 3 games in the 2027 Eurobasket qualifiers. It was the first FIBA window for the new coaching staff led by head coach Patrick Unger.

A look at the stats shows that Luxembourg had a balanced team effort so far. Anne Simon scores 14.3 points per game, Magaly Meynadier 13.3 while Isi Etute adds 13 points per game and 10.7 rebounds.


In the standings, Luxembourg sits in second place. The winners and runners-up of each group, as well as the three best-ranked third-placed teams – 17 teams in total – will progress to the Second Round.


The men’s national team earned two victories in the 2029 Eurobasket pre-qualifiers. For the first time, a Luxembourgish team has started with 2 victories and the team of coach Ken Diederich is eager to make a push at qualifying for the next round.

Ben Kovac is tied for second place in the Pre-qualifiers’ scoring list with 33.5 points per game, Philippe Gutenkauf scores 16 points per game through the first 2 games.


In the standings, Luxembourg has 2 wins and is tied with North Macedonia (4 points each). Four teams – the three group winners and the best-ranked runners-up will advance to the Second Round, where they will join eight teams from the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 European Qualifiers First Round.
