Analysis after 2 out of 4 rounds with quotes by the coaches

2 out 4 rounds have been played in the men’s National 2 this season. The league only features 8 teams, that is why all teams play against each other 4 times during the season.

Let’s remember that 2 teams promote to the LBBL after the 4 rounds, the 3rd placed team will play a « best of 5 » relegation/promotion series against the third last placed team from the LBBL. The bottom 2 teams relegate to the National 3.

At the winter break, Gréngewald Hueschtert is leading the league with 12 games won out of 14, Bascharage sits in the second promotion spot at this moment while Mondorf would play the promotion series (currently against Telstar Hesper) after a surprisingly strong season so far. Kordall did not manage to play up to their potential so far as the team was a favorite for the promotion spots before the season. Zolwer has had issues with their professional players and therefore started the season slow but the team has been on the rise over the last weeks. BC Mess can not be satisfied with a 6th place as the team entered the season with high ambitions. Mamer and Black Star would relegate to the National 3 at this moment, something every team wants to avoid. Next to several (professional) player changes, Black Star and Kordall already made a change at the coaching chair.

Alex Pires (coach Gréngewald Hueschtert)
„Like we said during preseason our first goal was built a strong team spirit, something that I think we achieve and allow us to be after 14 games in a good position.
Knowing that there’s still a long way to go we hope to keep the same path.
We will try to achieve our goal but for that we need to keep the same commitment.
Wish to all, players, coaches, staff , referees, clubs and fans a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.“

Adam Radomirovic (head coach Bascharage)
„Given the fact that we struggled with some injuries in our short rotation we are more than satisfied with the outcome of the first part of the season. However, our goal of being our best each week has not changed. Moreover, it has become more specific in terms of being sharper on each possession and against all opponents in this strong National 2“

Philip Dejworek (head coach Mondorf)
„We definitely are positvely surprised with our results so far. Avoiding relegation was and still is our goal. If we move forward with the second part of the season and see that our team can compete at the same level as it did (in the first part), it would be a definite goal to finish among the top 4 Teams.“

Carlo Ferrante (head coach Zolwer)
We had a difficult start due to injuries and we had to change one of our import players. So we cannot be satisfied with the beginning of the season. In the last weeks we were improving. The addition of Jenkins helped us. With him and Council, we have the right couple of imports for our team. We hope that all our injured players will have recovered for the final 2 rounds. Our goal remains the same than before the season. We play to move up to the LBBL.

Micheline De Oliveira (president Kordall Steelers)
All in all, the season has not fulfilled our expectations so far. We had a good start with 7 wins out of 8 games but we knew that this series could end very fast as the results in the second round of the season was also a logical result from the performances in practice. Our opponents were prepared much better and that really hurt our team. Everybody needs to question himself and than we will try to play a better third and fourth part of the season.

Zoran Jovicic (head coach BC Mess)
Unfortunaltey we were not able to reach the goal that we set before the season. Right now, our goal has to be to try and play a stronger second round of the season.

Rainer Kloss (head coach Black Star Mersch)
With our record, we can obviously not be satisfied at all. We also had problems with our professional players. We will have to win as many games as possible to avoid a relegation to the National 3 in the new year. Hopefully, Covid-19 will allow us to play 14 more games.

Jannick Tuffel (head coach Mamer)
We are obviously disappointed with how the season has gone for us so far. We knew it would be a tough season but several injuries to key players have made this an uphill battle. Our goal is to get healthy and be more competitive going forth.

The National 2 season will continue on January 8th.
