Coach Dziurdzia and team captain Meynadier are ready to write history

Our women’s national team will be in action in February in the FIBA 2025 Eurobasket qualifiers. The national team will have a historic chance to qualify for the European Championship 2025. Luxembourg enters the final 2 games as the leader in group H.

On Thursday, Luxembourg will play in Bosnia against the winless group last while a potential final showdown to win the group is scheduled for Sunday in Montenegro.

Head coach Mariusz Dziudrzia notes that these two games „are the most important games in the careers of the players. We have a historic chance for basketball in Luxembourg, I hope that the players can enjoy the moment while being extremely competitive at the same time. » Dziurdzia expects Bosnia to play with some younger players that „want to proove that they deserve a spot in the roster in the future. Montenegro will be much better prepared than they were in Luxembourg. They have a very strong team and they want to take revenge. There is clearly some pressure involved for our team. If we want to qualify for the European Championship, we should be able to beat Bosnia and than we we will see what will be possible on Sunday in Montenegro. »

Playing without Ehis Etute is definitely a challenge, but Dziudrzia notes that „it is the job of the entire team to compensate her absence. Ehis can not be replaced by one single player but we have a good roster and other players are ready to step up. »

Team captain Magaly Meynadier will join the national team in great shape, the player of the Saarlouis Royals has played extremely well over the last weeks in Germany. „It will be interesting to see if we can beat both opponents one more time, it will be a great challenge. The game in Montenegro will be extremely difficult, we are aware of that. I expect our team to beat Bosnia and then we will see what will be possible in Montenegro. We know that we are shorthanded under the baskets with the absence of Ehis, we need to adapt our playing style for both games. »

Meynadier will join the team on Sunday, she is one of four players that play abroad in the women’s roster. „I hope that all players join the team well prepared, the players in Luxembourg practiced with Mariusz over the last days and we will not have a lot of time as a team to prepare for the games. We need to understand the importance of this opportunity. We might not get this chance again in the near future so that it is now the time to take advantage of the opportunity. These games are clearly one of the highlights of our careers because of the possible reward. Our team is extremely stong at the moment, this is the chance to make a dream come true for our national team. When I think about playing against France or Germany at the European Championship, these are really dream scenarios that now have a chance to become reality. »

Meynadier also notes that it will be important to enjoy the moment and play without pressure. „Montenegro is the favorite against us, but we are clearly not the underdog against Bosnia. Over the last years, we entred almost every game as the underdog, but this time the situation is different. Both opponents will be well prepared, I am looking forward to the challenge ahead! »
