Contern has a chance to qualify for the play-offs

Game day 21 is scheduled this Friday and Saturday in the men’s LBBL, the play-off race is heating up and a decision could fall this weekend.

Right now, 7 teams are already qualified for the play-offs, 4 teams are fighting for the last spot while Racing has to go to the play-down, a thrilling situation for all basketball fans. Contern made a big step forward by beating Esch on Wednesday-evening, now Contern will try to win on the road in Ettelbruck, one of the most difficult challenges in the LBBL. Actually, Contern has a chance to qualify for the play-offs if they win their game and T71 and the Musel Pikes lose their game.

The Friday-game between Racing and Résidence does not have an influence on the play-off race but the guests have a chance to clinch the number one seed with a win and a loss by Sparta on Saturday in Esch. The derby between Arantia and Heffingen is an interesting game in the classification race as Arantia could still pass Heffingen in the standings over the next 2 game days, but Heffingen is holding the bigger stock at the moment. The same counts for the game between Basket Esch and Sparta, two teams that are still trying to grab home court advantage in the first play-off round.

After a furious January, the Musel Pikes have a chance to finish 8th which would be an amazing comeback given the fact that the team had one win to start the year 2022! After their strong performances over the last games, they want to continue their run by beating Telstar, a loss would end the play-off chances of the team from Hesperange.

On the last game day (22th game day), Contern will host the Musel Pikes on March 5th, this game has the potential to be a do-or-die game, but that game is still far away. The Musel Pikes lost the first game to Contern 66:100, so that they would be in a very difficult position if they enter that game with a 1-point deficit. This means the pressure is on them to win their game against Telstar and then, they will definitely take a look at the game in Ettelbruck and hope for a win by the home team.

Game on Friday:
20:30 Racing – Résidence

Games on Saturday:
15:45 Basket Esch – Sparta
18:30 Arantia – Heffingen
20:00 Musel Pikes – Telstar
20:00 T71 – Amicale

In the women’s LBBL, 3 games are scheduled in the second round of the season. Gréngewald and Basket Esch do not play this weekend. The Musel Pikes will look to solidify the number 2 seed with a win over Amicale while Steinsel wants to climb the standings to earn home court advantage over the next 6 games. Résidence is trying not to let any team come close to the number 3 seed in the standings, they are the slight favorite going into the game against Contern. The last placed team Etzella is facing a difficult challenge against the unbeaten T71.

19:30 Résidence – Contern
20:30 Etzella – T71
