Reactions from Lisy Hetting and Hermann Paar after Gréngewald’s Euro Cup experience in Namur

18 points, 8/13 from the field, 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Lisy Hetting had a very strong game against Namur on Thursday-evening in Gréngewald’s Euro Cup experience.

With 30 years, Lisy is one the most experienced players of Gréngewald’s women team, she showed that on Thursday-evening. „I am really thankful that I got the chance to play another game in an international competition, it was a great adventure. Especially for our young players, this was an amazing experience to be part of. »

Losing the game by 20 points is clearly not a bad result for the underdog from Luxembourg. „Overall, I am satisfied and proud of our team how we played. Like everybodys knows, the circumstances were difficult and the preparation was a challenge, we did not play a game for 2 months and were out rhythm. I also want to thank our club for giving us this possibility and for finding opportunities to practice. »

At one point in the fourth quarter, Gréngewald reduced the deficit to 13 points after trailing by 20+ points. „Unfortunately, we were not able to get closer which would have forced Namur to react. Who knows what would have been possible … »

While the women are normally playing against teams in the Total league, this game gave them the opportunity to compete on a higher level. „It is a totally different game against a team like Namur, the game is more physical. I think that we entered the game with a lot of respect, which got obvious at the start of the game and at the start of the 3rd quarter. However, we definitely do not have to hide after this performance. Unfortunately, we only played one game on the road and did not get the chance to play in front of our home crowd, but the health of people is clearly the priority at the moment. »

Head-coach Hermann Paar says that he „wants to congratulate his team for how they took on the challenge in this special situation. Our team has presented women basketball in Luxembourg in the best way we can. I also want to thank our club for taking this big step, first of all Véronique Peffer for the organization and the support of this game. This game has shown that we are on a good way, but we have not arrived at our goal yet. Over some parts of the game, we played very well. However, we could not play on one level for 40 minutes. With the preparation that we had, it was obvious that we had a lack of competition and this clearly hurt us to start the game. With 2 or 3 better rotations in defense, we could have gone to the break with only a 10-point-deficit. Then, the game could have turned around in our favor. However, we had a situation where we right there to come back into the game (Gréngewald only trailed by 13 points at one point in the 4th quarter) but we could not extend that run. The difference between both teams was clearly the athletic abilities and experience. Lisy and Tessy are players with experience and they were able to show that with strong performances. Our younger players follow their lead, not only in games but also in practice. Players like Laurie Irthum or Joy Baum are learning a lot from them and you can see the result on the floor. All our players were excited to make this experience and I think that this was the next big step for our club after the championship in 2019. We all hope that we will be able to compete in the Total league as sson as possible. »
