On Wednesday evening, the women’s national team started the 2027 Eurobasket Qualifiers with a road game in Ireland. In the first game of new head coach Patrick Unger and his coaching staff, the FLBB squad was able to grab a convincing victory, 69:53 was the final score!
With a balanced team effort, Luxembourg jumped out to an early lead and went into the halftime break with a 37:21 advantage. Luxembourg continued to dominate the game after the break and won the third quarter 15:5 to extend the lead to 52:26 and finally won the game on the road with a clear result.
Dionne Madjo had a double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, Anne Simon scored 14 points while Magaly Meynadier added 13 points for Luxembourg.
A great sign for team Luxembourg was also the combeack of Catherine Mreches, she just made her comeback in the league competition and is now back on the international stage.

Head coach Patrick Unger: „We had a strong and aggressive defensive effort for 3 and a half quarters and followed the game plan well, esepcially in the defensive end of the court. Offensively, some things worked well but we need to make adjustments for the upcoming games. Israel and Bosnia Herzegovina will be different opponents. Overall, we are happy that we had a good start into the competition. On Thursday morning, we will continue to work to improve as a team. »
The next game is on the schedule against Israel on Saturday, Israel was able to win its first game against Bosnia Herzegovina.
