Our men’s national team will be in action in the 2029 FIBA Eurobasket pre-qualifiers on Thursday at the Coque in Kirchberg (19:30) against Ireland. Luxembourg’s opponent is ranked 82nd in the FIBA world rankings, 6 places ahead of Luxembourg at 88.
It is the first of 2 games this week. National team head coach Ken Diederich knows that the game at home will be a challening one: „After a longer break, it is always difficult to find a rhythm. Ireland has become much better, we need to find our rhythm quickly and avoid an early deficit. Our ambition is to show competitive basketball in a crowded gym. While we need to follow the game plan, a little bit of luck on our shots is also necessary in order to compete with a strong opponent. »

Sparta-player Max Logelin, who is the top JICL scorer in the men’s Enovos League this season, knows what the team needs to do in order to be ready from the start. „Ireland has tall and strong players. We need to present in the rebounding area and play aggressive defense from the tip-off. If we are able to do that, our offense game will follow. We have plenty of good offensive players and we should use our speed to our advantage. My role is obviously different compared to my role in Bertrange. I simply try to be the best possible player and give my maximum effort. »
