On Wednesday-evening, the first game of the « best-of-3 »-finals-series in the women’s Total League between T71 and Résidence will be played in Dudelange.
Women’s national team head coach Mariusz Dziurdzia is happy that „the finals will be played this season and that spectators will be allowed to enter the gyms. I think that we can expect a very interesting and competitive series. The fans in the gyms will bring new motivation and power to the players, it will be a different feeling for the players than playing in empty gyms.“
He talks about T71: „T71 has played consistently all season, they have a large roster and enormous quality on their team. They were the favorite to win the title to start the season in my opinion and they also have the role of the favorite entering this series. If I had to put numbers on their chances, I would say T71 is a 60:40 favorite. »
He talks about Résidence: „Résidence has surprised me a lot this season. I did not expect them to be on top of the league before the season. The team has become better over the season, I give a lot of credit to coach Tara Booker in that regard. Résidence has 2 of the best professional players in the league in Cahill and Logic. Their (young) luxembourgish players joined from Heffingen and Hesperange and are able to help the team play at this high level. »
He talks about the women’s league in general: „The teams that are on top of the standings play on a strong level. 7 teams are playing on a very similar level, it got obvious that Sparta and Contern were not able to compete with the best teams but all other teams were actually playing on a similar level which makes the league very interesting. We also have some young players that start to take on bigger roles, we are heading into a good direction and we can be satisfied with the level of play in the women’s Total League. »
