Women’s JICL MVP RACE presented by Lalux

The first edition of the JICL MVP RACE in the women’s LBBL is presented by our partner Lalux.

Next to the statistics of the players, other criteria such as the record by the team also take an influence on the ranking. Obviously with only 4 games played so far, it is still very early in the season but here are the top 5 JICL players of the season 2021/22 so far (first edition).

1. Nadia Mossong (T71 Dudelange)
Nadia’s team Dudelange is unbeaten (4:0) to start the season, she is the second leading JICL scorer of the league and she has tremendous shooting percentages (61 % from the 3-point-line) through 4 games. The 35-year old former professional player is averaging more than 3 made shots from outside the arc per game. She will clearly be in the MVP discussion for the rest of the season.

2. Esmeralda Skrijelj (Amicale Steinsel)
Amicale is winless this season, mainly because the team is playing with only one professional player. Skrijelj has carried her team in the first 4 games and made sure her team was competitive. Her personal statistics are impressive: She is the main JICL scorer (20.5 points), main JICL rebounder (11.8 rebounds) and she has the best evaluation statistic of all JICL players. If she can continue to play well and her team starts winning games, she will be a main candidate to win this award at the end of the season.

3. Cathy Schmit (Musel Pikes)
MVP of the last regular season, Cathy Schmit is having another strong start into this season. In fact, she is under the best players in all main statistics: She is the JICL leader in assists per game and also averaging a league-best 2.5 steals per game in addtion to her 6.5 rebounds (2nd in the JICL list). Once again, she is the motor of a strong Musel Pikes team and she is on her way of being in a position to defend her MVP title from last season.

4. Billie Schulte (Basket Esch)
Billie is the 5th best JICL scorer in the league and is averaging 1.8 steals per game (second place behind Cathy Schmit). She scored 18 points in Esch’s big win over Sparta last weekend and had a special highlight-play ( –> Video: Billie Schulte hits incredible “floating” 3-pointer . Esch has a balanced record this season (2:2) also thanks to the strong play by Billie.

5. Charlie Bidinger (Musel Pikes)
What a start into the season for Charlie, she is the third best JICL scorer of the league with 17.5 points per game. the 26-year old guard is playing her 3rd season with the Musel Pikes and she is step by step taking over a big role in the Pikes-team. She had a season-high 24 points against Résidence and knocked down 6 3-pointers against Wiltz in one game, good enough to enter our list in the first edition.

Other players to watch:
As mentioned, it is still very early in the 2021/22 season so that there might be changes coming in our ranking. Last year’s finals MVP Catherine Mreches is clearly a top candidate to win the MVP award and will therefore most likely enter this ranking at some point of the season. Her teammate Mandy Geniets is also among the best JICL players in the league. Lisy Hetting from Gréngewald has played extremely well in the EuroCup games and has been in our top 5 all of last season, she will clearly be a candidate to enter this list. Many other players should be able to enter the discussion over the next weeks so that the race for the MVP title 2021/22 will be very entertaining.
